Life was boring as the son of two marginally successful wageslaves, and his free time was taken up in video games. Yes, those great babysitters. He loved the ones with giant robots the most, and it was not long before his heart was broken: Santa didn't leave him a giant robot in his stocking. Regardless, Leo went on, learning about giant robots and the worlds they live in. He still dreamed of having a giant robot of his own, of course. He studied how he might make a giant robot, and how a giant robot would be piloted (the anime on the subject seemed to be all wrong). Testing from his parents' corp earned him a job at 16 as a vehicle pilot, where all those video games (sort of) paid off: his hand-eye coordination was great, and his passion for zipping around and not dying helped him to zip around and not die. When he turned 18, the corp approved him for upgrade to a rigger, and backed him with a VCR and a cyberleg to hold an RCD. Sadly, there were complications during surgery, and Leo died on the table. Well, not really, obviously. Leo had actually paid all the savings he'd kept from working for the corp to a group of runners to extract him. Leo was no fool; if he wanted to realize his dream of having a giant robot, no government would allow it. Plus learning about the political settings of the more intellectual giant robot games had made him wise to the fact that the governments and corps all sucked. The only solution was to take to the shadows. Newly christened Kellhound quickly learned that being a rigger is expensive. Even with a free VCR and RCD, all the toys and gear and everything cost bank. He did runs as best he could, courier jobs mostly, saving up just as he had before. Eventually he had his own custom vehicle, and his career really started to take off. He got some drone toys, a nice place to stay (nicer than his childhood home, even), some nice illegitimate practices. Things were looking solid. And then misfortune struck! Well, not really. That does sound dramatically appropriate though, doesn't it? What really happened was Kellhound finally found the perfect spot to start to realize his dream: an industrial warehouse in a quiet and semi-abandoned industrial park, a warehouse that went several and several more stories underground, a warehouse where he could build his giant robot. He also met a great mechanic and possibly prototype rigger named Kinetica. The guy was old, but he really knew his stuff. The fact that he didn't think a giant robot was viable didn't deter Kellhound a bit. The really cute 16 year old who was apparently some sort of adopted daughter did, but a bit of drama later Kellhound was "Uncle Hound" and something of a babysitter, in return for a nice deal from Kinetica. So, he works and runs and dreams of his ultimate goal: a mech. Other Rigger Drones, and gear and crap The rigger has a stock Strato-9, a stock MCT-Nissan Roto-Drone, and two stock Spiders stuffed with C4. What's more fun than a tiny drone scout? A tiny drone scout that blows shit up on command in a glorious kamikaze strike! He's also still got the Americar. Not a Mafia guy, he just wanted his street name to be The Truth but he has a lisp. Not the shiniest coin in the fountain, but he can find work when it's to be had, and the runners he finds have a built-in recommendation: they lived long enough to show up on Joey's radar. Level 1: Lone Star Brass - Lt. Martin Lackey. Only moderately corrupt, though he of course thinks he should be a Captain by now. For a little palm grease he looks the other way on various vehicle permits and can make problems go away, but that costs. Level 2: Mechanic - Kinetica. A nice guy, getting on in years, who sometimes claims to be one of the original riggers. Whether it's true or not, he's a genius with vehicles. He happens to think [the PC] is insane for trying to build a mech, but hey, if it works, who knows? He's also got a 16 year old daughter he's trying to raise, preferably without her becoming a shadow-denizen and getting herself hurt or killed, and he cuts [the PC] a serious break on parts and labor in exchange for keeping an eye on her. And not hitting on her, but that part's tougher. (Look, a contact with a Dependent! Plot fodder if ever I saw it.) And he's got about five grand left in cash.
